Product & Ingredients
What exactly is a coffee bite?
A coffee bite is a 20g solid edible coffee product. It is made from cocoa butter, coffee, and sugar — no water, no brewing required. The bite preserves the full flavour profile of a roasted coffee in portable solid form. You eat it directly; no preparation needed.
How is a coffee bite different from coffee-flavoured chocolate?
Coffee bites are not confectionery. They are formulated to deliver the flavour experience of a real coffee — specific roast characteristics, origin notes, and caffeine content — using the roaster's actual beans. The base is cocoa butter, not chocolate. The distinction matters: the flavour comes from the coffee, not from added flavouring agents.
What is the caffeine content per bite?
Caffeine content varies by roast and blend. It is directly dependent on the roaster's beans and the roast profile they specify. We do not add or remove caffeine. As a reference point, a typical espresso bite made from a standard commercial roast contains approximately 60–100mg of caffeine per 20g bite. We provide verified nutrition data including caffeine content for each production run for labelling compliance.
Are coffee bites vegan?
The Espresso Bite base formulation is vegan: cocoa butter, coffee, sugar. Milk variants (Cafe Latte, Macchiato) contain dairy and are not vegan. The Oat Latte variant uses oat milk powder and is vegan. Soy variants use soy milk powder and are vegan. We confirm vegan status for each specific formulation during the development phase.
What are the allergens?
Allergens vary by variant. The base Espresso formulation contains: cocoa butter (tree nut-adjacent — declare as required). Milk variants contain dairy. Soy variants contain soy. Hazelnut variants contain tree nuts. All allergens are clearly declared on packaging and confirmed in the production specification document provided before each run.
How long do coffee bites last?
Coffee bites have a 6-month best-before date from manufacture when stored correctly. This is validated per production run and printed on each unit and outer carton.
How should coffee bites be stored?
Store cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Ideal storage temperature is below 25°C. Do not refrigerate — condensation can affect texture. Bites are individually sealed in flow-wrap packaging for freshness and portability.
Roaster Partnership
How does the roaster partnership work?
You supply your beans and your roast profile. We formulate the bite around your coffee, produce it in our facility, package it under your chosen branding model, and deliver it to your door. You own the product commercially. We are the silent manufacturer.
Can I use my own beans and roast profile?
Yes — this is the core of the partnership. We do not supply or source coffee. You provide your beans at the specified roast profile, and we formulate the bite to preserve those characteristics. Your origin, your process notes, your flavour targets.
What packaging models are available?
Three models: (1) Ours — JOE × YOU. Packaged under The Joe brand with your roastery attribution. Fastest turnaround, no design investment. (2) Us — Co-branded. Your logo and The Joe branding share the label. (3) Yours — White-label. 100% your brand. The Joe is invisible in market. All three use your beans and your roast.
Is The Joe visible on white-label products?
No. Under the Yours (white-label) model, The Joe brand does not appear on the packaging in any form. You provide print-ready artwork; we manufacture and package. The Joe appears nowhere on the finished product or its outer carton.
Can I sell the bites under my own brand at retail?
Yes. Many roaster partners use the white-label model to sell bites as a retail product line under their own brand — in their roastery, online store, or through wholesale accounts. The Joe has no visibility or commercial participation in your sales channel.
Do you work with small-batch specialty roasters?
Yes. The 50kg minimum is specifically set to be accessible to specialty roasters and boutique operations. At 20g per bite, 50kg produces ~2,500 bites — a manageable first run for a single-origin or limited-edition product.
Ordering & Pricing
What is the minimum order quantity?
The minimum order is 50kg of finished product per production run. At 20g per bite, this produces approximately 2,500 individual bites. We confirm your per-bite rate and total run cost in our first enquiry response.
How much does white-label coffee bite manufacturing cost?
Pricing is quoted per project — it depends on your variant mix, packaging model, and run size. Submit an enquiry and we'll come back within 24 hours with a per-bite rate, total run cost, and volume tiers for larger runs.
Are there setup or design fees?
For the Ours (JOE × YOU) and Us (co-branded) models, packaging design is included at no additional charge — we use our existing brand templates. For the Yours (white-label) model, you supply print-ready artwork at no charge to us. Custom structural packaging, embossing, or specialty print finishes are available at cost — quoted per project.
Can I order multiple variants in one production run?
Yes. The 50kg minimum applies to the total run, not per variant. You can split a run across two or more variants (e.g. 25kg Espresso + 25kg Oat Latte) as long as the total meets the minimum. Per-variant minimums may apply for some specialty formulations — confirmed during the development phase.
What are the payment terms?
A 50% deposit is required to commence production. The balance is due prior to dispatch. Payment is by EFT. Payment terms for established partners are available on application.
Production Process
How long does production take?
4 weeks from deposit paid to delivery. This includes: formulation development (days 1–5), sample production and your sign-off (days 6–14), full production run (days 15–24), and packaging and dispatch (days 25–28). The clock starts after your sample is approved and deposit is paid.
Do I receive a sample before committing to a full run?
Yes. A pre-production sample is produced and sent to you before any full run commences. You taste, test, and approve. If the formulation requires adjustment, we refine and re-sample at no additional charge. Production only begins once you provide written sign-off.
What information do I need to provide to get started?
To begin the development process, we need: (1) your bean specification (origin, variety, processing method), (2) your roast profile (light/medium/dark, target notes), (3) your chosen variant format (espresso, latte, etc.), (4) your preferred packaging model (Ours/Us/Yours), and (5) if white-label: print-ready artwork to our label specification. We send a complete brief document after your initial enquiry.
Where are the bites manufactured?
The Joe's manufacturing facility is located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. All production is Australian-made. We are registered with the relevant Australian food safety authorities and comply with FSANZ standards.
What quality control processes are in place?
Each production run undergoes in-process quality checks and a final batch review before dispatch. We provide a certificate of conformance, nutrition information (independently verified), and best-before date documentation with every run. Samples from each batch are retained for traceability.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Submit an enquiry at thejoe.com.au/partner/enquiry. Tell us about your roastery, which beans you want to use, and which packaging model interests you. We respond within 24 hours with a development brief, sample request form, and pricing confirmation.
Can I speak to someone before enquiring?
Yes. Email tasman@thejoe.com.au directly with the subject line "Roaster Partnership". We will arrange a call or meeting to walk through the process before you commit to anything.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. We sign mutual NDAs on request before any proprietary bean, blend, or roast profile information is shared. Our standard NDA is available on request.
How many roaster partners do you currently work with?
We do not publicly disclose our full partner list — confidentiality is part of the white-label model. We can confirm we work with both established roasters and single-origin boutique operations across Victoria and interstate.
